Specialists call this season abnormal: the import of vegetables included in the “borscht set” has increased five-fold, while in a month it has doubled. This is evidenced by the data obtained during the monitoring of the Info-Shuvar news agency.

Ukraine has never imported such a large volume of agricultural products, which it usually provided for itself. But due to the reduction of sown areas and low productivity in Ukraine and in Europe, the country was forced to take care of the purchase of vegetables as early as last fall, explains the representative of Info-Shuvar Tatyana Getman.

According to her, in addition to the great need for an increase in import purchases, traders faced the problem of finding new suppliers, as the crop failure affected neighboring countries.

A drop in vegetable production was observed in most European countries, so imported products were quite expensive. At the same time, their prices rose even against the background of an increase in foreign supplies.

According to Tatyana Getman, if the EU countries had a good harvest of vegetables, their prices in Ukraine would be lower. It is noteworthy that import deliveries were not able to completely block all positions.

So, last year’s white cabbage stocks came to an end in the last days of April. The vegetable disappeared both in the markets and in supermarkets of Ukraine, and throughout Europe.
