Canadian Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Industry Marie-Claude Bebo and Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade, held a roundtable on July 3 with leaders of the Canadian pork and beef sector.
The round-table discussion provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share information and conduct a productive exchange of information on current issues of access to the Chinese market.
The Canadian government has pledged to continue to work tirelessly to restore full access to the Chinese market for Canadian goods, while promoting the Canadian Trade Diversification Strategy.
The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Industry said: “We work closely with farmers, industry, provinces and exporters to restore access to Chinese markets as quickly as possible.
We know that the Canadian food safety system is recognized as one of the best in the world, and we will continue to fight for the entire agricultural sector of Canada. ”
And the Minister of International Trade said that “Canada has the best food products in the world, and the resumption of market access for our meat exports to China is a top priority for our government.
I was glad to be here today to chat with representatives of Canadian business and hear their opinions. We support our manufacturers and will work closely with them on this issue until it is resolved. ”
Canada is one of the world's largest exporters of agricultural and agri-food products, sending abroad about half of its domestic food and agricultural production worth more than $ 65 billion to more than 180 countries.
