In Spain, Royal Decree No. 463/2020 of March 14, published on Saturday March 14, declared an alarm state for managing the health crisis caused by COVID-19.Article 15 “Measures to ensure the supply of food” states that the authorized competent authorities take the necessary measures to ensure:
- The supply of food at places of consumption and the functioning of the services of production centers, which allow distributing food from the place of origin to commercial enterprises for sale to the consumer, including warehouses, logistics centers and destination markets. In particular, when necessary for safety reasons, the escort of vehicles transporting the mentioned goods may be agreed.
- If necessary, the creation of sanitary corridors that allow people to enter and exit, raw materials and processed products destined for or arriving from enterprises where food is produced, including farms, markets, feed mills and slaughterhouses.
In the agricultural industry in Spain are grown: olives, grapes, citruses, almonds, sugar beets, wheat, tobacco.
First of all, you should know that the Royal Decree regulating the state of anxiety guarantees the supply of food, therefore, it was noted from various government delegations that the movement of tractors should be guaranteed, and not obstructed, since these people moved as working vehicles, which included, therefore, according to the rule of the government, in Article 7, which, as an exception, governs “relocation to the place of work to fulfill one’s labor, professional or business position”.
- A team of researchers from Cartagena Polytechnic University (UPCT) has developed an active container that can extend the shelf life of vegetables contained in it by more than 40%, significantly reducing the percentage of rotting fruits.
- Torrential rains caused serious damage to crops in Alicante and Murcia, which significantly reduced production volumes.
- Heavy and constant rains and storms, accompanied by hail in some cases, affected the southern half of Spain: Almeria, Murcia, Alicante, Valencia and the Balearic Islands, between Wednesday and Thursday, storms moved towards Castellon and Catalonia.
