Sensors in the hive, a documentation application for the beekeeper or heating wires for automatic control of the varroa tick - these are all startups from Austria offering new solutions for working with bees.
Brothers Martin and Mark Poreda from Vienna launched the project “hectares of nectar”. Everything works like this: interested companies provide beekeepers from their region with a kit for bees, including bee families, accessories, special literature and beehives, worth about 950 euros.
In exchange for financial support, the company can clearly describe the protection of the bee using the latest developments. Individuals can also act as bee friends and provide financial support to beekeepers. There are currently 58 companies in the project. Among them are Xing, the state Hofbräuhaus in Munich and Suzuki Austria.
BiAndme is also from Vienna. CEO Martin Bittner wants to use digital technology to transfer processes in the hive to the beekeeper’s smartphone and give him advice for his early actions.
For example, he can determine the temperature inside and out, whether the queen wants to mate. Using the recorded data, the beekeeper can now counteract and remove brood combs or artificially separate the bees.
In addition, the scales measure the weight of the hive. This indicates how much food the bees still have in the winter or how much honey in the hive in the summer. This means that the beekeeper does not need to open the hive often. At the same time, the efforts of the beekeeper and the load on the bees are reduced. BeeAndme has already sold more than 2 thousand modules at a price of about 1 thousand euros per unit.
- Russian bees travel with their entire families in postal parcels.
- Brazilian bees are killed by entire families due to pesticide poisoning.
- Earlier we reported that in Volhynia bees are massively dying.
- We also wrote that the “guard” bees guard the farm from the Kherson region.
- At the beekeeper from the Nikolaev area almost all bees were lost.
