The supply of early potatoes in Ukraine continues to increase. The trend is the same throughout the country, there are more and more potatoes every day, even in the market of the western regions, where it rains today. Accordingly, products are becoming more affordable in price, which is why demand for them is also growing.
According to the Info-Shuvar information center, today in the largest wholesale market in the Western region, the Shuvar ORSP in Lviv, you can find any amount of early potatoes from domestic and foreign producers.
Domestic potatoes today cost from 9 UAH / kg to 17 UAH / kg (€ 0.31-0.58 / kg), depending on the caliber of the tubers. Such a price is at least 30% lower than the prices of the previous year and 15% lower than prices at the end of May 2017.
Imported potatoes are presented by products of producers of Azerbaijan and France. Such potatoes are offered from 10 UAH / kg to 20 UAH / kg (€ 0.34-0.68 / kg), the cheapest is Azerbaijani potatoes. Shuvar sellers say that in the second half of May, demand almost completely shifted towards domestic products, so import volumes are declining.
Interestingly, this week the prices for “early” and “old” products were almost equal. As previously reported, due to a drop in productivity and a decrease in production space, prices for potato crops in 2018 in spring 2019 reached unprecedented high levels.
Today, the "old" potatoes on the "Shuvar" costs 8-9 UAH / kg (€ 0.27-0.31 / kg). A year ago, the "old" potato was 2 times cheaper.
