In the municipality of Kleinkarsdorf, Dresdner Vorgebirgs Agrar AG is building the first dairy farm in Germany with a garden for a dairy farm, investing 6 million in this project. Having realized this idea, the company expects to increase milk production, increase the life expectancy of cows and increase their litter.
More greenery, more light and air, more technology - and ultimately more milk - this is what the Cowshed with Garden concept promises. The world's first garden barn was built by Chris Bomers, an organic milk producer, in 2015 in Groenlo, The Netherlands. And now a similar garden will appear in Germany.
Direct speech: “Cows that feel good. much healthier and live longer, ”says CEO of AG Lutz Muller.
The company AG holds 730 cows of the Saxon breed, and has long been looking for new forms for growing and keeping livestock. Construction of the cowshed-garden will begin next spring, and it is planned to launch it next fall.
A new barn will be built on the territory of AG on the outskirts of Kleinkarsdorf. The building will consist of two parts: a garden and a regular plot. Direct speech: “Our cows will have from 8 to 20 m² of area per animal,” says the head of the company. “Nearly twice as much space as a regular barn.”
The floor in the garden area will be as soft as in the garden in the open. It is made of patented plastic, which allows urine to leak out quickly and fall into a special collection. This will reduce ammonia emissions.
The robot will take care of milking the cows, and the cows will be able to approach the milking robot, anytime. The company expects this to save animals from stress and increase milk production.
