In the new year, in the steppe region, together with the project of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), forest belts will be planted, which should contribute to the restoration of soil fertility.
The definition of ownership and use of forest belts, their examination and inventory is provided. After the successful completion of these stages, the planting of forest belts is planned for October-November, depending on the agro-climatic conditions that will prevail at that time.
Direct speech: “The project is aimed at improving the situation with land use and the state of land resources in Ukraine, especially the fertile soil layer. Khersonism belongs to the zone of high-risk agriculture and the zone of special climatic risks.
Deciduous trees saturate the soil with nitrogen, ash, humus, and also create an optimal environment for microflora.
Based on the opinion of Ukrainian experts, we, an international organization, understand that the Kherson region is also an area in which the destruction of the upper progenital layer of soil occurs at a very fast pace, ”said the project coordinator at the conference.
Recall, near the village of Velikiy Klin in the Golopristan district of the region, two rows of seedlings of common oak, gledichiya and honeysuckle 2.240 km long have already appeared.
The Institute for Water Problems of Land Reclamation provided the land for this, and workers of the Steppe Branch of the Ukrainian Forestry Research Institute raised and planted trees, by agreement with the FAO, and thanks to its funding.
