Gotham Greens today opened its largest greenhouse in Chicago. The expansion allows Gotham Greens to supply consumers with year-round fresh food stocks to meet growing demand from retail and restaurant businesses in the Midwest.
The new 100,000 square foot modern greenhouse is Gotham Green’s second greenhouse in the Chicago Pullman Historic District and the sixth greenhouse nationwide.
“The expansion of the Gotham Greens in Chicago demonstrates a continued commitment to the city, state and region by creating new jobs and using high-tech greenhouses to grow high-quality produce even in the coldest winter months,” said Governor J. B. Pritzker.
“Agriculture is a vital component of the economy of our state, and I am pleased to see opportunities for urban agriculture, such as this expansion of the greenhouse.
Investing in innovative solutions will keep Illinois at the forefront for decades to come and help create good jobs that can support the family. ”
The local cultivation and regional distribution network of the company ensures quick delivery of products after they have been collected at their peak, so that they are fresh, tasted, nutritious and stored for a long time. This includes Gotham Greens regional favorites such as Pullman Green Leaf and Windy City Crunch.
Gotham Greens will double its workforce to approximately 100 full-time employees in Chicago and 300 nationwide.
Gotham Greens leafy greens, greens, salad dressings, and pesto sauces are available at various national and local Midwestern grocery stores, including Whole Foods Market, Jewel-Osco, Target, Heinen's Grocery Store, Sunset Foods, Pete's Fresh Market, and Peapod.
In addition, the company collaborates with various Chicago agencies, including the Greater Chicago Food Warehouse, Greater Roseland West Pullman Food Network, Pilot Light, and Chicago-based Windy City.
