The British-Chinese protocol on ensuring access of British beef exporters to the Chinese market by the end of 2019 was signed by British Minister of Agriculture Robert Goodwill and Chinese Ambassador to Great Britain Liu Xiaoming.
This move is part of the Tenth Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) between the UK and China, which will provide access to the Chinese market for British beef exporters by the end of 2019.
UK Foreign Secretary Dr. Liam Fox said the deal is “welcome progress” for British beef producers. And Minister of Agriculture Robert Goodwill said that the signing of this protocol is a “major revolution” for the country's agricultural sector.
The British-Chinese Beef Protocol is the culmination of several years of inspection and interaction between UK and Chinese government officials.
China is currently the eighth largest export market for UK food and drink products. Last year, Chinese consumers purchased British food worth more than £ 610 million.
