As of March 28, 2019, a sugar beet sowing campaign was launched throughout the country.
So far, 20 thousand hectares have been sown with sugar beets, which is 10% of the projected number of areas, the Ukrsakhar association said.
Almost half of all currently sown land is located in agricultural enterprises of the Khmelnitsky region, which is 11 thousand. In the Rivne region, sugar beets are sown on an area of 3.5 thousand hectares, in the Volyn region on 2.7 thousand hectares and in the Ternopil region on 2, 4 thousand hectares. Some farms in Volyn, Ternopil and Lviv regions have already completed the sowing campaign of sugar beets. This year, agricultural enterprises began to sow sugar beets at a faster pace due to the fact that after the winter period there was little moisture left in the soil. Farms are forced to plant seeds in cold soil and be wary of spring frosts.
Agronomic services of Ukraine claim that such a risk is justified, since according to the experience of the past year, part of the sown seeds could not be ascended due to the fact that the sowing was carried out in dry land, noted in the association “Ukrsahar”. Earlier it was reported that according to forecasts “ Ukrsahara "sown area under sugar beets will be reduced by almost a quarter and will amount to about 220-230 thousand hectares.Share
